About Me

I was born in Michigan, but we moved to Arizona when I was six months old, so I am almost a native. I grew up in Fountain Hills and graduated in 1998 from Fountain Hills Jr./Sr. High School. My senior year, we won the 3A volleyball state championship. I played college volleyball at Western New Mexico University. After I completed competing at the college level, I transferred to Texas Tech University where I received my BA in language arts in 2003.

Upon returning to Arizona, I was married in 2004. I coached high school club volleyball in Fountain Hills for three years before my oldest daughter Kaylee was born in 2006. I started my teaching career in 2007. I completed my masters of education from the University of Phoenix in May of 2008 and my twin girls, Lily and Leah, were born shortly thereafter. In September of 2013, my son was born. I have taught middle school ELA for ten years.

This is my third year in QCUSD, but this year I started a new adventure as the data specialist here at Newell Barney. I have coached girls volleyball at Newell Barney for the last three years. Last year I also coached boys volleyball.

"Do your job" or, as a coach, “Hard work will beat talent when talent doesn't work hard.”

About Me

I was born and raised in Wyoming with three older sisters. I played every sport offered. I have been married for 17 years and have three kids: Britton, Riley, and Reagan, who are currently at QCHS. I enjoy building and repurposing pallets, furniture, or anything old. I enjoy building classic cars and muscle cars. I enjoy camping but I never get to go! I still collect baseball cards and recently, Wyoming license plates.

Educational/Professional Background

This is my 19th year teaching, and eight of those have been teaching high school business and the remainder here in QC. I have coached for over 25 years at most sports from the HS varsity level to little league. I have umpired baseball for 15 years. I have a bachelor’s degree in secondary business education from the University of Wyoming. I began my teaching career in Oregon, and became head coach for girls varsity basketball, only to return to Wyoming. I have taught at three different high schools while in Wyoming, again taking on the role as a head coach for girls varsity basketball. I also spent time as a boys and girls varsity golf coach, junior varsity volleyball coach, track coach, and baseball coach.

"We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy." - Albus Dumbledore

About Me

I am a native Arizonan - I grew up in Payson, and then came down to the valley to go to Arizona State University. I have stayed down here ever since. I like weekend adventures, animals, and spending time with loved ones.

Educational/Professional Background

Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from ASU
Master's Degree in Community Counseling from University of Phoenix

I have taught for 19 years. I started in Gilbert in an elementary behavior problem classroom, and then moved to sixth grade in elementary. I have been in QC for 12 years now, all at middle school level, and have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in language arts and elective classes.

Educational and School Counseling Philosophy

I see my role as a teacher to prepare students for all walks of life. I need to prepare them in academics, but also support those soft skills that they will need to find success in life - advocating for self, responsibility, follow-through, and how we treat others. These are all equally important to their success as a person. This preparation should happen in an efficient, challenging, and engaging way.

“Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.” All's Well That Ends Well (I.i. 61-62).

About Me

I have a wonderful husband who is an Army veteran, retired teacher, and phenomenal soccer coach that I am lucky to be married to for 22 years. I have three beautiful daughters who are my sunshine, and I have a wonderful supportive family including a beautiful mother and two sisters whom I love very much.

My hobbies include anything with family. We love going to the white mountains to fish, attending athletics events, movies, music venues, going to Utah for hiking, and visiting family.

Educational/Professional Background

I have my English literature degree and master's degree in administration education from Grand Canyon University. I earned my secondary teaching certification post baccalaureate from Ottawa University. I have been teaching for 15 years, 10 of which have been spent in Queen Creek Unified School District.

Educational and School Counseling Philosophy

In my classroom, learning is about respect, appreciating knowledge, and the work it takes to become knowledgeable. It's about appreciating literature and grammar and the purpose for understanding it. I strive to push students to their full potential by helping them realize what that full potential is. Respect is of utmost importance for each other and for the important goals that we have to have in order to reach future endeavors.

"You're on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the one who will decide where to go."

About Me

I am Mrs. Vargas. I am originally from San Diego, CA. My family and I moved to Arizona in 2006. My husband and I just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary! My husband's name is Carlos and he is a captain for the Chandler Fire Department. I have three children: Jovan (19 years old), Elias (15 years old), and Cynthia (13 1/2 years old). Never a dull moment at the Vargas 5 home!

Educational/Professional Background

I received my bachelor's degree in human services in 2009. I dared not stop going to school, because I knew I would not want to finish. I received my master's degree in education with an emphasis in special education in 2011. I completed all of my schooling at University of Phoenix. I am a Phoenix!

Educational and School Counseling Philosophy

I consider myself to have extremely high professional, moral, and ethical standards in all facets of my life, but particularly as an educator of exceptional learners.

Professionally, I strive to come to school every single day prepared, eager, and ready to instruct my students with enthusiasm and positive energy. It is important that I approach and evaluate each student on an individual basis, so that I can accurately assess his or her academic and emotional needs. I seek council and advice from other special education teachers to assure that I am utilizing all tools available to reach each individual.

Of my own moral code, the most important, would be honesty and integrity. I always share with parents of my special needs students the absolute truth, even when it can be difficult to hear. It is my responsibility to provide accurate information regarding the academic and emotional needs of each of my students, every single day.

The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rarest and beautiful of all.

About Me

I have lived in Arizona for over five years. I moved from Anchorage, Alaska with my family in 2012. I adore my husband and our five children.

Educational/Professional Background

I co-owned two gyms in Anchorage, Alaska before I became a teacher. I was a personal trainer and professional athlete for 12 years. I retired from competing in 2014 and went back to school to finish my bachelors degree in special education. I am a certified k-8 teacher as well as k-12 special education. I have a two year certificate in dietary management and an associates of arts from University of Alaska. I graduated with my bachelors of special education from Western Governors University in May 2017.

Educational and School Counseling Philosophy

I believe every child is capable of learning and deserves the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in a variety of different ways. As an educator I feel it is imperative to start off teaching at the student's level and then build a level of scaffolds and supports to help the students traverse to the next level of understanding. Part of this journey is to provide our students with the opportunity to self-assess and build confidence in their own ability to learn. This is what I strive for on a daily basis with my students. To empower them and provide them opportunities to learn in a way that is meaningful to them.

I enjoy movies, sports, and playing tennis in my spare time.

I believe all students want to learn and want the opportunity to spread their wings and soar. I strive to create rigorous, engaging, and rewarding math activities that teach children the value of math in the world in which they live. Teaching is about creating an environment of mutual respect where students are not afraid to take risks, make mistakes, and overcome challenges to reach their full potential.

“My mom always told me that happiness is the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy.’ They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, I told them they didn’t understand life.” – John Lennon

About Me

I was born and raised in Colorado. Half of my heart still resides there in my family, but I moved to Arizona with my husband so that he could pursue his dream of owning his own strength and conditioning business. I wanted to teach since the day I remember wanting to be anything in the world. I chose to teach math because I struggled with math in school. I feel as though it allows me to relate to those who also struggle with the subject. My ambition is to help students find at least one thing to love about math. I also want them to always remember that life is though, but so are they!

Educational/Professional Background

I have a bachelor of science in mathematics with an emphasis in secondary education from Colorado Mesa University. This is my fourth year teaching.

"Luck is great, but most of the successes in your life will require hard work."

About Me

I am a mom with two children at QCHS. I have a son who is a senior and 18 years old, and I have a daughter who is a sophomore and is 16 years old. My favorite thing to do is go boating and just relax at the lake. I love to read, spend time with my family and friends, and just laugh and enjoy each other's company.

Educational/Professional Background

Bachelors of Science Health and Physiology Education

Areas of Certification:
Health Education - Grades 5-12
Middle School Certified Middle School Science
Computer Technology - Grades 5-8

Educational and School Counseling Philosophy

My only goal as a teacher is to not just to teach a student about science. My goal is also to teach students accountability, responsibility, organization, and problem solving. To achieve these requires hard work and trial and error. I do believe that there are mistakes in life, but these are only events that we learn from to make us better people. Sometimes these are hard and uncomfortable, but by going through them, you are learning very valuable lessons. All these things will make them better students and people.

It's a tie between "People will forget what you say or do, but they will never forget how you make them feel." and "Seek to be worth knowing rather than to be well know."

About Me

I was born and raised in Arizona and have lived in Queen Creek for 22 years. I have seen the community grow and it makes me proud to see how far this once small little farming town has come. I am very close with my family and friends and enjoy spending as much time with them as I can. I enjoy reading, baking, any sort of Pinterest-inspired craft project, and anything outdoors. Coffee is a necessity in my life, and those that know me know how true this is. I have been teaching for three years now, and even though it has its challenges, this is the career I have wanted since junior high school. I love what I do and the kids I teach.

Educational/Professional Background

Bachelor's Degree in History from ASU
Master's Degree in Secondary Education from GCU

I have three years of teaching, which includes being an AVID trained teacher, student council sponsor, coach, and serving on several different committees for AVID, curriculum development, advisory councils, leadership, etc.

Educational and School Counseling Philosophy

I believe that each and every one of my students is capable of greatness, and each one of them deserves to feel as though they are capable and that their teacher believes in them. I feel as though it is my job to help them see their potential and reach the goals they set for themselves. They are and always will be my priority, and if I can make a difference for just one of my students, I will have done my job.

About Me

I chose teaching as a profession when I was in 7th grade knowing that it was a career that would offer me the opportunity to make a difference for kids just like the wonderful teachers I had growing up did for me.
